Luke Edward Hall

The Lacquer Company

Luke's collection of furniture and accessories made in collaboration with The Lacquer Company launched in spring 2025. Handmade in Vietnam, the collection comprises a coffee table, chest of drawers, nightstand, mirrors, trays and a wastepaper basket.

James Lowther, founder of The Lacquer Company, bought his first piece of lacquer in 1999 whilst travelling in Burma, an antique betel box in burnt orange which remains one of his favorite things. He learned about the lacquer process and began to appreciate the patience, skill and attention to detail that goes into the finest examples.

James discovered the most highly skilled lacquer craftsmen in Saigon, Vietnam, where all The Lacquer Company's pieces are made to this day. Designers collaborate with James, combining Western design with Eastern craftsmanship.

The items of furniture and accessories, which Luke collectively named Benedict, feature trompe l'oeil painted decoration, inspired by the antique Regency painted furniture that Luke loves and collects.

During the Regency period, trompe l'oeil painting was a popular decorative technique applied to furniture, particularly to give the illusion of architectural elements or realistic objects.
