A thirty-eight bedroom hotel in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, opened in October 2020 with interior design and art direction by Luke. A hotel, or the home of a bohemian Parisian collector? This imagined story was central to Luke's concept for Hotel Les Deux Gares. Antique furniture from various decades, French wallpapers and English carpets, mid-century lighting and a wild mismatch of colourful fabrics combine to create an eccentric retreat for travellers to the City of Lights.

Hotel Les Deux Gares, Paris

An electric pea green lobby sets the tone for the rest of the hotel and features a typically intriguing mix of furniture: a 19th-century French gilt wood table, a pair of mid-century Spanish pink ceramic table lamps and a mirror designed and decorated by Luke, inspired by William Kent's Palladian masterpieces. The lobby sitting room is dominated by a traditional Toile de Jouy wallpaper depicting villagers, animals and cherubs amongst scrolling foliage. The coffee table is in the style of Jean Royère and the pair of armchairs were made by the Italian architect and designer Paolo Buffa.

Upstairs, the hotel's bedrooms include ebonised and gilt furniture inspired by French Empire antiques and 1970s-style geometric carpets woven in England. The wall light lamp shades are decorated with Luke's drawings.

The hotel's bathrooms were inspired by those of the 1920s. Luke sourced pastel-coloured bathroom fittings, pillar wall lights and tiles decorated with a Greek key motif: his own bold take on Art Deco.
